Sechan Electronics Partners with Pelican to Develop Modular Ground Control Station to Support Military Operations

Summary

Sechan Electronics provides command and control stations to remotely operate unmanned aerial systems for defense applications. In need of a protective solution to house the station, Sechan turned to Pelican to develop a single custom case that enables the command center to be completely mobile in a rugged, watertight, dustproof, and airtight container.

Challenges

• Size: Other solutions on the market required multiple large cases and components to transport all equipment necessary to make the Ground Control Station operational.
• Portability: Other solutions on the market were cumbersome, heavy, and lacked the integration Sechan Electronics sought to simplify the transportation process.
• Protection: Military operations occur in a wide range of extreme environments, Sechan Electronics needed a protective solution that delivered the single integrated system for easy portability, while delivering the ruggedization necessary to withstand harsh elements.

Solution

Size and portability were key factors in the development process, and with that in mind Pelican set out to develop a case that could house one single integrated system. The result was a ruggedized, weatherproof protection solution that fit all components of the Ground Control Station, including processors, power supply, and cooling systems, into one single man-portable case. The case was developed to withstand impacts, water, dust, and was tested to meet MIL STD specifications to ensure maximum protection between operations. With the entire Ground Control Station built into one case, Sechan Electronics reduced the space required to store the system, simplifying the transportation process and freeing up space for other essential equipment.
