ANDE Partners with Pelican to Develop Case for Mobile DNA Analyzer

August 2, 2024

Summary

ANDE’s mission centers around taking DNA from the laboratory and getting it into the hands of field teams for faster, near real-time insights. Because DNA evidence lives in the field, ANDE designed an instrument that can be transported from scene-to-scene, whether that be on the battlefield, in a crime scene, or at a command station. ANDE’s Mobile DNA Analyzer relies on a Pelican Custom Case Solution to withstand the many types of external elements that could damage the sensitive internal components.

Challenges

  • Mobility: Due to the size of the equipment and need for extreme protection, the original case became so large and cumbersome it could barely fit through a doorway
  • Protection: Due to the sensitive nature of forensic DNA equipment, ANDE’s Mobile DNA Analyzer required extreme protection to ensure the system remained fully operational after transport, even in the extreme weather conditions U.S. military and law enforcement agencies operate in.

Solution

Pelican developed a Custom Case Solution that balanced the size and mobility of the system with the extreme protection required to defend the equipment against shock, vibration, and weather elements. By transitioning the interior protection system from foam to wire rope isolators, Pelican significantly reduced the case’s size and improve performance against shock and vibration, all while adding a built-in transportation cart, making the system far easier for anyone to transport.
