Summary

In an effort to standardize on one tactical flashlight and better serve the community, one of the three largest Law Enforcement Agencies in the United States partnered with Pelican to develop a custom tactical flashlight that would become their standard issue flashlight for years to come.
 

Challenges

• Standardization: Rather than using various models and types of flashlights, the agency needed one handheld light with all necessary features and functionality to standardize on.
• Customization: Other vendors had many built-to-stock solutions but lacked the ability to partner with the agency to develop a custom solution that included features such as a holster, custom branding, and programmability.
• Power Supply: With various types of power supplies, from rechargeable batteries to disposable batteries, the agency needed a flashlight that supported multiple types of power.

Solution

Working with agency's equipment specialists, leadership, and union staff, Pelican developed a durable, custom duty light platform to meet and exceed the needs of the department. With power supply top-of-mind, Pelican engineered a compact, high-performance design that supports both USB charging and common, disposable batteries. Applications for the flashlight include traffic situations. As a result, Pelican designed a holster and marshalling cone that instantly enables any officer to use their duty light as a traffic wand. In addition to customizations to support traffic situations, the agency desired a common set of pre-programmable modes to maximize efficiency in the field. Pelican delivered with the full range of requested programmable modes pre-installed on the platform.
